That reviewer needs to get over himself. I find myself in the middle of both reviews.
It was enjoyable pulp. There were a lot of in jokes. But what do you expect when you go to a movie called Grindhouse?
It was all pretty whacky, but the moments of tension I liked the best were in Tarantino's section. It also had the dullest let's show off our dialogue writing skills. Feh. And it also had the most jarring segue from the first half of the Tarantino film to the second. At least he didn't make the women wear bras. How liberating is that?
As for Mr. Rodriguez, he had the most story lines going in his film. None of which ever really paid off. But it did have the extremism, of dare I say, Hong Kong cinema. There is nothing better than a crying gogo dancer, if you ask me.
