Driveways (2019)
#1
One of the final films from Brian Dennehy. He plays a role fit for him, an elderly nextdoor neighbof vet, who seems cranky at first, but then warms to a young boy who comes with his single mom to close the affairs of his recently deceased aunt, who was a horder. It's a sweet quiet film and Dennehy is the only recognizable actor beyond Jerry Adler (who is one of those actors you've seen a ton of times but don't always know from where). The boy doesn't make friends easily and is subject to neighborhood bullies. Brian gives a characteristically understated performance, which culminates in a life's regrets confession. The single mom and boy are azn, which only factors in with the bullies' mom who feeds her kids donuts and frappacinos as they watch pro wrestling. Cleaning the horder house reminded me of what Greg and I will face, especially with the passing of Syl's mom this week, which brought the inevitability home once again.

No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended unless you're a fan of Brian.
