Life in Lynch Lair at Wildcat Station
#95
At Ranch Macbeth, we grew a bamboo wall to separate our backyard from the neighbor behind that had a two-story that stared down into our yard. We bookended the wall with redwood trees. The last time I was by a few months ago for inspection between tenants, it was still solid although the bamboo had thinned a little. Fortunately the redwoods are huge. I was proud to have planted it all.

The trick with bamboo is you must corral it. It must be planted inside a thick plastic root barrier (it's a heavy grade of plastic) that's a yard deep. I dug that trench by hand. Then you have to keep an eye on it because it'll figure out ways to jump over that wall. Once you have it it, it's low maintainence and thickens up quickly.

Bamboo is a culture all to its own. We grew Goldenrod and Bissettii. But that's a crazy deep rabbit hole. We went to bamboo shows and such to learn about it. If I ever own another home, I'll grow more.
