Well, it would be a big cat.  Just in case, rather than stuff it in a wastebasket, I carefully set it out in the backyard by the garden.

The next morning it was gone.  So was a green tomato.  Not sure what that signifies.

Today we went to San Jose to fetch a PTC relay for the fridge, and then I replaced the old one.  It was definitely bad, so this was a necessary fix.  Whether it's a sufficient fix remains to be seen.

We spent the day cleaning out the fridge, and under it, including the coils, and inside the access bay behind, where the fan, compressor and other components are.  It's now plugged in, and I have an ice cube tray with water in it in the freezing unit.  It's getting colder in there, but not very fast, and I'm still not convinced I've fully fixed it.

As a public service announcement, I would advise you all to regularly remove the foot grating and clean under the fridge and especially the coils.  Because cats just want to be free.

As extra credit, check the range hood filter over your stove for a true moment of zen.
