I remember seeing this back in the day. It was anthemic for stoners and in High School, that door had opened. It's almost unwatchable now. Cheech and Chong - well, honestly, most of their movies, records and skits have blurred together and I barely remembered this film except that it was selling pot from an ice cream truck. Chong really reminds me of a dear RM hippie friend in the way he speaks. That kinda amuses me because I don't think I knew him the last time I saw this. I had forgotten that Pee Wee Herman was the coked out wacko and that Tim Leary makes a cameo and doses them (the trip is very disapppointing). There's also an early Sandra Bernhard cameo that's easily missed. The humor doesn't work anymore. The plot is nonsensical and their banter is hardly engaging now. It just sounds like a lot of people I know. There's a few inside stoner jokes, but they're painfull dated. The gratuitous topless scenes are minimal and the spandex and Farah hairdos are time capsules.
I think at the time, this was impressive because marijuana use was still very illegal back then and for C&C to be so open with its depiction, they became bannermen for the cause. Note that I was sober watching this, but I really don't think it would be any funnier if I was stoner.
Disappointing overall. More childhood memories shattered. No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended even for DOOM stoners, if there's any left.
