Against my better judgement, I opted to tell my mother I was coming for a visit on Christmas Day. Ostensibly, it's to see my sister and nephew, but I thought I would earn some brownie points and achieve a few moments of respite from my mother's torrent of madness for my sisters. I'm going to show up, cook breakfast, open presents and then head back to the lair. No big deal.
Except my mother thinks it's crazy. She wants me to spend the night in crazy Lynch manor and go out to dinner with them. I barely want to spend the morning with her, never mind the entire day. Plus, for about twenty years now there hasn't been a decent bed to sleep on in the house. It's all Day Beds and Sofa beds.
When she offered the accommodations, I said pass. Hard pass. That's the end of the story, right?
Sigh.
My mom's losing her mind about it, of course. She decided to get a friend of hers, one of her cadre of psychophantic freeloaders, to call my sister Roberta to get her to convince me to spend the night.
I'm planning on having a fight with my mother later.
