Jameson cask aged whiskeys
So my dear wife has been gifting me Jameson cask-aged whiskeys, probably because they seem exotic and are cheaper. Honestly, I'm not a big Jamo fan. I'll get it at bars when I can't afford a decent shot (which is almost always nowadays) in lieu of the well whisky, but it's not my whiskey of choice by any means. It was a fav with the old skool RM supply crew, so there's some nostalgia with Jamo for me, but not enough to drink it regularly.
She gave me a bottle of the IPA a while ago. Meh. I don't care for IPAs to begin with - the whole hop craze was too millennial for me. It's like the fawning over peat in whisky. I mean I get it. But hops and peat are such obvious flavors that any man-bunned avocado-toast nibbler can taste it. Meh, meh, MEH.
She just gave me a Stout cask aged Jamo. I do like stouts (hello? Guinness? oh yeah. Still indulge in a pint now and again despite my diabetic ban on beer
pretty rare tho - only for the most special of occasions when i need a real treat). The verdict? more meh. Barely taste the stout. It's more in the nose than the tongue.
Bottom line:
Beer cask-aged in whisky barrels is good - too bad I don't drink that much anymore.
Whiskey cask-aged in beer barrels is dumb - just drink beer.
Irish Whiskey cabinet now = 7
Redbreast 12
2 Teelings (standard & small batch)
2 Powers (standard & single malt)
TJ & this Jamo Stout
Every bottle except for the last two are only a few shots away from being dead soldiers...
