Mamma Mia 2
#1
Why isn't there a Mamma Mia 1 thread here?  Don't answer that.  It's rhetorical.

I'm not a huge ABBA fan, but I respect there position in pop music.  MM1 was driven by a strong cast (Meryl) and catchy dance numbers with deep;y burrowed earworms on a gorgeous Greek isle.  2 is the prequel, like Phantom Menace of ABBA.  Lady Rose takes over the young Meryl role and while I admire her for her hotness, it's always bothered me that out of all the stellar cast of Downton, she would be the one to grab the public eye (note that Mr. Carson just got knighted alongside Palin, so it's all good).  Lily remains easy on the eyes, but completely unconvincing as a young Meryl, as are the young suitor versions of Pierce, Colin & Stellen (the young-ens don't even have proper Brit accents).  Beyond all the ridiculous plot holes (like the horse - who's horse was that?) the dance numbers are okay (although the baguette fight in Waterloo does NOT count as a swordfight) but the lousy lip synching undoes it all. The promise of Cher and Meryl don't pay out until the end, and by then it's way too late.  HP factor 1 (Molly Weasley - same as Mary Poppins Returns).

Gawdammit.  The Fernando earworm eggs have hatched again and are nibbling at my cochlea.
