Today, March 12th, is the day. The first screening outside the nest.
HK and I did a partial run through yesterday up at West Berkeley Fencing Center. Mostly it was just to see if all the gear worked. It did. One of the coaches came and cut off our viewing as he had to give lessons, so I saw about half of the film.
All I wanted to do after the screening was go back and fix many things. We still only have about 20 percent of the music There are a lot of volume issues with the sound track. There are spelling mistakes in the sub-titles and lower thirds and I'm missing one of the interviewers in the credits at the end. And he will be at the screening tonight.
Probably the biggest problem is the color correction. I did a first pass and in some areas, the color looks good. In others, it looks like I had beer goggles on when I did the color matching. It hurst most in two interviews that I did that had a lot of sunlight in them. Over the course of the interviews, the sun moved as the sun does. Unbeknownst to me, this caused the color temperature to shift during the shots. Which means while in some shots the color correction works great, in others it is awful. I'm hiring a color-grader this week to work on the problem.
Makes me want to call the whole thing off.
Last night I went out for dinner with the 'Rents. My mother got it into her head that we should be celebrating this momentous occasion. Yeah, about that.
Regardless, the film flies tonight. I think people will like it. I think I still have a lot of work
