Oscar nom shorts 2017
#1
I luv shorts. This year they are all foreign. Forgive my crappy translation. Two deal with immigration and two have aging moms.

Song - sweet story of a kids choir. Amazing that they got such rich performances out of kids. Could've been a full length movie.

Silent night - shelter worker gets involved with a Ghanaian immigrant. Another one that could have easily been a full length movie. Ran a huge gamut of emotions.

Timecode - cute Spanish vignette about dancing security guards. Short subject - delightful.

Enemy within - an Algerian Muslim interogated as he applies for French citizenship. Stark, simple, issue driven.

Woman and the train - an aging baker women waves a flag at the passing train every day and starts a sweet correspondence with the engineer. Romantic and existential.

AND THE WINNER IS...
Silent Night. I felt like I went through an emotional rollercoaster ride with that one. Covered an amazing amount of ideas in such a short film yet didn't feel dense. Actually got misty at the end of it.
