Fire and Ice (1983)
#1
Not an airplane flick - a sick flick seen on Hulu+. This Friday is a dance at my daughter's school and the theme is fire and ice, so I thought I'd revisit this Bakshi/Frazetta film.

It's horribly sexist and racist now. A blonde blue-eyed hero against colored neanderthals. The damsel in distress wears a g-string and nipple-displaying sheer tops. Notebly, there's an exploitive male ass grab scene in slo-mo early in the film, so there's a homoerotic element too. It's Frazetta after all, and there are plenty of shout outs to his famous paintings. It's violent and non-sensical (loincloths in the frozen wastelands? Srsly?) but it has its moments of rotoscopic glory and Bakshi visions. The rotoscope motion capture film for this must be interesting as everyone is practically nekkid all the time.

I was honored to meet Frazetta at his museum/home/studio many years ago. He was age addled by then, but it was nice to shake the hand of the man who created the Death Dealer. If nothing more, F&I is the Death Dealers back story.
