Terms of Enlistment by Marko Kloos
#1
Another weekend ripping through a book.

Really fun. It had that Heinlein military space opera feel.

Basically, our hero escapes poverty by enlisting in the Space Army. Pretty much the whole world is encased in poverty and the only avenue out for welfare rats like Andrew Grayson is the military.

It's pretty standard boot camp tale. but it is well told. And Grayson isn't the super soldier who goes from private to general in a week because of his superior skills. He's just a grunt and this is his story.

The end is where you can see where this story is going. Thankfully, there are five books already in the series. Unfortunately, it started as a self-pub/ebook deal so the library doesn't have any copies and I am being forced to purchase them.

You might know the name Marko Kloos from last year's Hugo snafu. Kloos got put on a slate, was nominated, and then pulled his nomination. He didn't want to be associated with slates. Which is sad, because after reading the book, it seems like he should have gotten some recognition.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
