The Drop
#1
So, I read the book first upon which the film is based. It's by noted crime author Dennis Lehane, who wrote the books Mystic River and Shutter Island and many others.

Well, this book came across as more of a film treatment than a full fledged Lehane novel. After seeing the movie, I'm afraid I was right. The movie followed the book note for note. And the book wasn't that good.

Starring Thomas Hardy and James Gandolfini, the movie revolves around the characters who work in a mob bar. That's about it. The bar is being set up for a robbery by nefarious characters. Tom Hardy plays sort of a dim witted character at the center of the problems. There is a lot of talk about him getting a dog. Gandolfini plays sort of an ex-Tony Soprano, a mob guy who found out there are tougher mob guys than him.

I don't know if I would have enjoyed the film more more if I hadn't read the book. It moves as slow as Tom Hardy talks. Not a lot happens. The characters all have one note. I don't think a sword fight would have saved it.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
