The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North
#1
It's a very recursive novel. Think of it as groundhog day except instead of reliving one day, you get to relive your entire life over and over.

The first half of the book is slow going as Harry recounts his first five or six lives. His lives all span the same era from the 1920's until the 2000's He gets to live through this time over and over again. He gets to do it in various guises. Some times he's a teacher, some times he's a business man. Frankly, I was getting a bit bored.

Then he found an enemy and things got moderately more interesting, but only a little bit. Basically, the actions someone takes during the course of Harry's life, and there are other's like Harry, starts altering the future and destroying the Earth. Harry has to find this person and stop him over the course of subsequent life times. The trick is when you die, the earth resets back to the time you were born but you remember everything that happened to you in the previous lives.

If you look at the story, it's very Nihilistic. You live your life and you can't change anything. It was well written but I just kept coming back to the thought that nothing you do has any effect. I don't know if that was what the author intended but it's the thought I came away with.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
