We have one cat, named Halvah. Perhaps you're familiar with her from Lady Cranefly's posts on Facebook. We've set up three litter boxes for her, and she uses all eight of them.
When Robert Duvall comes to visit, which is not often, he is fond of saying, "I love the smell of cat urine in the morning. It reminds me of ... icky."
You can buy any of a variety of deodorants/cleaners for cat pee, some of them quite expensive. But the key to using them is "lots," completely soak the carpet and wood and whatever else that has been penetrated by the urine. I doubt I'm telling you anything you don't already know, but sometimes it's fun lecturing myself (actually, it helps bolster my memory).
My approach is to buy white vinegar by the gallon. I think the Dollar Store has it cheap. Then I just drench the areas at regular intervals. The house smells of vinegar for several days, but that's still a step up.
Good luck, and if you see Bob Duvall, say hi from me.

I'm nobody's pony.
