Okay, I have a soap box and this is it. Much like Burt Wonderstone, this movie is about magicians. And like Burt Wonderstone they use camera tricks to do the illusions rather than actual legerdemain. Right at the top, they show a magician doing flourishes with a deck of cards, then they show a close-up of Jesse Eisenberg. It's supposed to be Jesse doing the flourishes but then never do the shot where you can see Eisenberg with the deck in his hand.
Basically four magicians are brought together to put on a series of illusions which rob banks and give the money to their audience. Morgan Freeman (It was the Morgan Freeman weekend) plays the magician who is telling Mark Ruffalo of the FBI how they are stealing all this money right under their noses.
The story was supposed to be slick and clever and all I kept thinking was well that is dumb. It's trying to be this clever caper film with impossible robberies which when you give it a seconds thought are impossible and only works because they are in a movie. But you have Freeman explaining how the tricks were actually done to make it seem plausible. But that didn't work.
Grrr. I say no.
