Steve Carell is a great supporting/character actor trapped in leading man roles. But you can't blame him. The money goes to the lead.
This film was the opposite of amazing. It's about the rise and fall and half rise of the titular magician. It's all very heavy handed and preachy about continuing to love the things you love or at least looking for the reason you love things. Yawn.
My biggest problem with the film is that they were cheaters. They kept using cinema tricks to do the magic tricks. If you are going to use Amazing in the title, it would be nice to see some amazing magic tricks. But no. CGI or cutaways were used for a lot of the tricks.
The film has a great cast and Jim Carrey, who is still trying to find out what he wants to do as an actor. This is a regression to Carrey's old rubber face days of yore. He plays a Chris Angel type character but again, no magic just outrageous impossible stunts that couldn't be done without the aid of effects.
No swords fights.
The Queen returns tomorrow, which means I need to watch GI Joe:Retaliation tonight. I tried to watch Touch of the Dragon: The JC story but Netlfix forgot to add the subtitles, again.
