I had high hopes. It is pretty to watch and does have Noomi. It rips off the first movie too much:
-Guys from the Company that are just there for the money
-Flame throwers (in Alien, Dallas jury-rigged them from onboard mining equipment. Why did this crew decide they needed them for an expedition?)
-An android (spoiler)who gets his head knocked off
It just has a lot of plot holes. Not just the ones noted here (spoiler alert): http://boingboing.net/2012/06/16/plot-h ... -deli.html
...but also as a prequel to the first Alien film, they broke some of the connecting links (Spoiler Alert):
If the Space Jockey left his ship to chase Noomi in the lifeboat and was infected/killed there, then why did the survey crew from the Nostromo find him still sitting, piloting the crashed ship in Alien? Wouldn't the seat be empty?
Why didn't they find the remains of the others in the "original" expedition party on the Alien ship?
The sign off at the end isn't clear. If Noomi left that as the distress/warning signal that originally attracted The Nostromo/The Company, then wouldn't they have been able to decipher it in Alien, know it was a warning and GTF out of there?
(double spoiler if you haven't seen Alien, but what's wrong with you?!?)
If the expedition was out of communication range with Earth, Weyland dies there, his daughter dies there. No one returns. How does the Weyland Corp get the idea that they want to covertly send the Nostromo team to pick up this WMD alien for military use?
I guess Ridley Scott wasn't aware of the plot points from Alien.
It would have been better if Weyland was on ice and they had to get advice from him about how to disable a smart bomb.
