Rihanna @ Oracle 6/30/11
#1
Cee-lo Green was supposed to open and dm was excited about that but the loser bailed, apparently because his contestant lost on The Voice the night before. That's so lame. Forget You, Cee-lo. The openers were DJ Dummy (who sucked - like dm could even make that name up) and J. Cole (who sucked too).

It was young, fresh, diverse (mostly ethnic), leggy, lipsticky, stilleto-heely audience. Clean, well dressed - classy to sexy to slutty. Well behaved for the most part too. A lot of maroon wigs. A few trannies, but hard-to-tell types, not the obvious freakish types.

Rihanna had a huge wall o speakers, subwoofers mostly, bass driven like a proper dancehall diva, many complained it was too loud, but it was bottom heavy, the way dm likes it. After all, the tour is called Loud. Before she took stage, the house music played Jr. Gong's Jamrock, and it was a delight to hear it on that big fat system. There were massive video screens, center and both sides, w/4 extra circular screens that moved about. On either side of stage, there were small $200 ticket pits, S pit and M pit, and those were really good because it offered a fantastic view and the chance to be pulled up on stage. Some lucky fan got a lap dance from Rihanna and one of the Rm nurses got Rihanna to shake her hand randomly. There was a premium box, $400 a seat, right behind soundboard, but the S&M stages were better. Rihanna doesn't really dance as much as she writhes. As she writhes well. Very well. Dm caught her opening, which was video of her getting blown back by speakers, then emerging from an egg ala Lady Gaga a top a throne ala Madonna. She had a lot of dancers, complete with poles to dance on. It's very hot. Dm caught S&M and to quote Wayne & Garth 'schwing!' Dm missed the two songs he was hoping to her, the reggae stuff of course: Man Down and Pon de replay. But then he caught, Cheers (Drink to that) which is dm's new fav tune of de jour - Rihanna launched into it after downing a fat shot of jameson, which dm respects as she's a small woman and that was a decent shot. in fact, dm suggests y'all give it a listen going into the 4th of July weekend. She won dm with that tune, but being Barbadian, well, dm is a sucker for dancehall divas and will fall head over heels for an authentic patios. Dm caught the encore - Love the way you lie & Umbrella, which was amusing and demonstrated she does have decent pipes after all. All in all, a very entertaining evening.

No official vid yet, but here's Cheers, and yes, that's Avril Lavigne on the sample.

Rm was mellow mostly.
