Wednesday (2022)
#16
E3 ended up as a perfect thanksgiving watch because it was pilgrims and witches. Eugene pukes. Figures. Ok, that’s fair. Eugenes do puke now and again.

The offhand Easter eggs like the 2 snaps and ‘you rang?’ are just enough. I’m glad they got Morticia’s maiden name Frump right.

For some reason, Ricci gets a lot of close ups. Her & Jenna. Will there be a connection there?

I’m digging the music refs - from Vivaldi to Metallica. That’s so Gough & Millar. They turned me on to Rag’n’Bone Man’s Human in Badlands. They nailed the season opener with that. They have keen ears.

4 nice play on the ol teenage dance tropes, and then going all Carrie. Did enjoy Jenna’s goo goo muck dance. Aw Eugene…

5 Gomez, Morticia, Pugsly & Lirch return and they’re a bit better. But that sword? A gilt swept hilt?

One mystery solved…

6 I’m guessing the psychiatrist because she’s the only blonde. Enid will wolf out and save the day in the finale. Eugene will recover for season 2. The dangling bit is Ricci - how did she know about the two snaps? Maybe she’s future Wednesday? Because that would be so meta.

It’s late. I’ll finish this later…

Another thought on e4 - there’s a good yeti comment.

Is that even possible?

Saw the first ep. At first wasn't sold on her as Wednesday but she grew on me. Gomez and Morticia didn't work for, particularly her. Zeta-Jones is just not up to it. The principal was Lucifer in Sandman. I think it will be alright - worth watching anyway.

Ep02 Still not the Wednesday we know and love but it is kind of a different animal, this need to solve a mystery rather a slice of life. Part of the problem for me is I just can't get invested in young people and the problems they have at their schools. And the mystery isn't really calling to me yet. And do you think out there somewhere there is foot corollary to Thing? Will continue to watch.

I’m done. Enjoyed it. Hope for a season 2. I ended up rather enjoying Ortega’s take on the character. I’ll be eager to see what she does next.

Armisen was good as Fester. Better than Lloyd. I figured the twists out mostly because of the timing - a lot seems to be solved in the penultimate ep which means the finale must be a twist and by then there were no more degrees of freedom left so the answers were obvious. Most of my predictions were on the mark. Eugene gets some redemption so I’m relieved there.

Ep03 Better. More Wednesday being Wednesday. It was fun playing name that tune with the Cello pieces. That is why I put Nothing Else Matters above so I would remember what tune was played. It was pretty gruesome and not in a fun way what happened all to those people. Still not as quirky as I am used to with Burton. I wonder if they told him to reign in it. The Queen found out that not only was the principal in Game of Thrones, she was also Captain Phasma (Underused in the movies)

Yeah, she was great in GoT. I saw her in Star Wars before I saw GoT and there was all this fuss, but the character doesn't do much (there's an deleted scene where she has a duel with Finn). She was one of the only actresses in GoT who never showed her boobs (Maisie Williams was the other but she was underage at the start). There was a hot tub scene where Brienne could've had a full frontal but the camera saved her decency. Brienne was one of the great characters that made that show work.

It's called the Raven ball yet our friend is the centerpiece? Odd.

Ep04 The young love interest boys in this show are whiny little bitches. Eugene, although nerdy, is every faithful. The dance sequence was quite odd. And at the end of the episode we get a big clue. At least that's how I interpreted it. Could be a red herring. I did like the scene in the morgue. That's the Wednesday I want to see.

Ep05 That was a poor episode. Once again they aren't using the characters as we known them. It was just some weird murder mystery from 30 years ago. And those deep close ups that Burton likes aren't doing CZJ any favors, especially in 4K. If you are going to have a mystery show the audience the clues as well rather than it be this deus ex machina reveal.

Ep06 I hate the boys in this show. They all have no self esteem. As usual I need more weirdness out of Wednesday. This arc of her becoming less closed off doesn't make a lot of sense. And how tiny is Wednesday that she wears three inch extensions on her shoes and is still the shortest in the cast. They need to do a photo of her side by side with the principal.
