Funny, I was listening to some Tom Waits yesterday. But that's a song from after I stopped following his work. Fits perfectly.

My favorites are
"Hang On Saint Christopher" from Frank's Wild Years and "Tom Traubert's Blues" from Small Change (love the incorporation of "Waltzing Mathilda")

You know, I am of the heretical opinion that Sly and Robbie are much better at playing funk than reggae. To me their reggae groove is a bit stiff. It's why I never liked Black Uhuru very much. I think their best work is with Grace Jones.

SO MUCH BLASPHEMY IN THAT POST!
Sly & Robbie RULE! I LUV Black Uhuru. I respect Grace but I confess I don’t know her stuff very well. Her videos traumatized me as a youth. I’ve said it before but Sinead’s reggae album is one of my desert island discs. It’s one of the greatest reggae albums ever.

Since there's been so much Beatles talk lately:
And my favorite Grace Jones song (cover of Flash and the Pan) with some great playing by Sly and Robbie:

I think the only Grace Jones song I know is her cover of the Police's "Demolition Man"

Mr. Sting performs Murder By Numbers with Frank Zappa and band...
(meh) --tg The fun begins at the 5min mark. Paul Williams doing For the Benefit of Mr. Kite is particularly creepy. --tg

This was my favorite Christmas song for awhile but I overplayed it. And what is Kylie Minogue wearing on her head?
