LUCASFILM // JULY 13, 2020

STAR WARS: THE BAD BATCH, AN ALL-NEW ANIMATED SERIES, TO DEBUT ON DISNEY+ IN 2021

CLONE FORCE 99, FROM STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, RETURNS!

Today, Disney+ ordered its next animated series from Lucasfilm, Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Fresh off of the critically-acclaimed series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Disney+ original series will premiere on the streaming service in 2021.

The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.

“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+.  “While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning.  We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is executive produced by Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS) with Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels) as co-executive producer and Josh Rimes as producer (Star Wars Resistance). Rau is also serving as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.

This begins with Order 66. It’s a band of misfit clones, a tad caricature - ones the muscle, another is the brains, and a sharpshooter, a tracker leader and a cyborg. Another rogue crew, rather homogenous because they’re all clones. Why do all clones have Aussie accents? The first Ep is intro - it’s very much in the wake of Clone Wars. There’s some cameos. There’s some cute kids. It didn’t blow me away or win me over but I’ll watch more. Nothing really popped out at me as being extraordinary yet.

No sword fights but some lightsaber action. Jury is out on DOOM recommendation at this point.

Meh is better than bad at this point. I've heard bad things about the show. Bad Batch has been referred to as the Clone Wars sequel no one wanted.

I just realized that the padawan Caleb is Kanan and that makes it better.

That prolly means nothing to any of you because none of you watched Rebels. But that was my fav animated Star Wars series so this revelation is huge.

E2. A lot about the kid Omega, who’s not really working for me. But there was a Twi’lek mom and her kids she had by a faulty clone which made me wonder how interracial procreation works in the galaxy far far away. I mean, which races can have kids together? Can Wookiee’s mate with Mon Calimarians? What about Ewoks & Hutts? So many questions...

E3: still doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere yet. Just watching it out of habit and being hopeful.

Thanks for the merge. I was searching for this title to post on this http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4237 (thanks to cf too there). I was nodding off as I did that and became quite confuzzled (not that this is an abnormal state for me but best not to go to sleep in that frame of mind, especially after watching so much cannibalism).

E4: Omega in peril. Kinda predictable but we get to meet the villainess and she’s kick ass - Fennec from The Mandalorian. It’s still not doing a lot for me. The eps are only like 25 mins long and they haven’t been delivering much.

Wait a second! Ming Na Wen's character, Fennec Shand from the Mandalorian, is going to be in this? Now I might have to watch.
