Stro
That's really cool!
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Yeah, good to hear the previous generation of the epee squad did good. I'm not sure about my gen. Ever hear from Tony Crawford or Chris Clark? I bumped into Tony at the Edinburgh Castle (figures) like 20 years ago maybe. A bar fight nearly ensued where we tried to poke each other with our fingers - I was with some Kung Fu brothers, and they thought it was for real for a moment, which added to the hilarity. Chris is such a common name that it's impossible to search (I've tried).

Meanwhile, I threw STRO a shameless plug at the end of my latest eziner - see http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/arti...ticle=1576. I was going to say Greg can thank me by making sure that there's extra nachos on the crafty table when we film DM & the Yeti, but after Rann's call, I'm going to call it even.

Never heard from either of those guys. Last I heard Juan and Debbie were married and living in Florida. Katie was a dentist in SoCal (her own best advertising, what a smile). Johnny Cabigas retired from flying U-2’s.

Sounds like G-Man needs to hit up the previous gen for funding of his next movie.

So true about Katie.

I got the others on social media but they're not active (or I haven't liked enough of their posts for them to appear on my feed).

Sigh. More non-validation. Cinequest has decided not to select Stro:TMDS. Twenty days early, I might add. I was really hoping for Cinequest since it is our hometown festival. But alas, no.

I'm going to go have a sad.

Oh, sadness. The American Documentary and Animation Film Festival will not be validating Stro: TMDS. And they weren't supposed to announce until next week, one of my few February announcements.

Come on, Ibiza!

So.....about that ImpactDocs award. You might have noticed that it was HK that did the post about the "win" on FB. That was all on him. I didn't think much of this honor. When The Last Captain was doing the festival circuit, ImpactDocs was the only festival that acknowledged us. They gave us the Award of Merit. Since we didn't win anything else or get selected by any other festival (bar one), it was kind of the highlight for the festival run. But I knew that festival had a very low bar giving out awards, since so many films were on the list for Award of Merit. They basically have five levels of awards and Award of Merit was second to the bottom. We weren't even Award of Merit Special Mention. Just Award of Merit. The level below Award of Merit is I believe "thank you for sending us money in exchange for laurels" level.

Well, why did I enter again if it's such lamentable festival? Easy, I hoped to do better. I wanted to show that Stro was an improvement on The Last Captain and subsequently we would leap up to a more prestigious level with Stro. Plus, I could enter into another category for free, which I did. That was the objective. Did I reach that objective? No. Stro was the exact same award level as The Last Captain. And yes I also did receive the Award of Merit in editing.

When they send out the Laurels for Award of Merit, I will probably post them. But it's not a big victory.

I used to reject participation trophies until I saw how much bank TCEC could make on them. It was enough to cover some major improvements for the real competitors.

Thanks for doing your part?

Happy Validation Day! Today I'm hoping for good news from Ibiza! Granted, no one has watched the film in that neck of the woods, but I can still dream. After this there is nothing until Feb 19th, unless Ashland notifies early.

This is turning into a wonderful geography lesson.

May the Mediterranean accord you a proper respect.

I just checked the Ibiza FF website and they have listed the films they will be screening and I did not see one about a Fencing Master. Still no notification, though.

It's Validation Day. I'm waiting to hear from the Ashland IFF. I'm hoping for this one so Mark Headley can pop in.

Whoopsy. Validation Day is tomorrow...

Just like it shows on my tracking calendar. I struggle.
