Stro
I might just share that with Peter. I had a long talk with him about the film the other night after he saw it. He's a bit upset I didn't leave the line in the movie where he professes love for Stro but did leave in the line where Peter called him an asshole. But he was very complimentary on the whole. He asked a lot of detailed questions about why I did certain things. It was a good ego stroke.

On the flip side, I'm deep in the Festival submission madness (post on that coming). For some of these small festivals or online festivals (I'm going with sketchy) they refer to themselves as IMDB qualifying festivals. Except, the only thing you need to 'qualify' to be on IMDB is a link to a trailer. But it is their selling point. Maybe it's different for features than it is for short films.

It gets a little seedy in some of the corners of the Festival world. I know my mother kept entering book contests that seemed solely to sell trophies and book stickers and tables at their events. Everyone was a winner. I had a similar situation on The Last Captain. We were told we won and if we wanted the award it was x dollars more. I think we were in the fourth tier out of five tiers, with five being the lowest. We could also download and print out a certificate. Granted if things get desperate, I'll be entering that festival again so I can put some festival laurels on my website.

Feel free to pass along my contact info to Peter. After Stro, Peter taught me the most about epee. That's not saying much however. Stro taught me how to fence but not how to fence epee. And in the end, I was a mediocre fencer. Nevertheless, it would be fun to reconnect with Peter. I have no idea when the last time I saw him was and wonder how much he remembers me beyond your Doc refresher.

Heck, it'd be fun to touch base with a lot of the cast. I think the only people I've seen recently have been PPFY and Dean.

I barely remember you on a good day.

He did remember you. He loved the Jung quote at the beginning and I gave you credit for talking about Stro's interest in psychology to spur that bit.

Cool! I always liked Peter. He had an artist's ferocity that I always admired. Did you ever talk to him about Lalo?

I did briefly. I think he's kind of sick of the question. It's the thing that everybody brings up with him. I think Lalo helped him a little but didn't support him fully at SJSU.

Yeah, that jives. I remember teasing him about it a bit. Lalo's Enter the Dragon soundtrack remains one of my all time favs.

I have the film stored on Vimeo so I can send the secret link people to watch it. The same goes for film festivals. And with Vimeo's analytics I can tell which Festivals have actually looked at the film, if they are off the beaten path from people who I know are looking at Stro.

Like Canada. I didn't send the link to any cast in Canada. But there are two film festivals. There is the Edmonton International and the Toronto International. Both cities pop up when you do the deep dive into the analytics. I'm assuming they have at least watched the film and have not dismissed it out of hand. This makes me happy.

This is not to say I've been selected, merely that they have looked at it. In it's entirety, I might add. But yes. The cart goes behind the horse.

Toronto? As in TIFF? That's a major one. I follow the wake of the festivals to track international films and TIFF always has a major impact.

Toronto as in TIFF. It's the first major, I think, of the festival season.

Indeed. It's a major one for Asian film, which is one of the reasons I tune into it. One of my Badlands reporter friends works for EW and she's based in Canada. She does all sorts of festivals and events as you do when you work for EW and she raved about TIFF saying it was hands down the best one. That might just be local pride, but there you have it. Best of luck. If you make it, you might just need a posse, and I've always wanted to see TIFF. Just sayin.

I've never been to a major film festival, just skirted some of the local ones like Cinequest. It's on the bucket list.

I will let you know.

Our USPS has been failing. Doesn't deliver every day. It's been wreaking havoc on our Netflix DVD schedule.

The USPS doesn't need a cruise-ship bailout; it needs adequate funding.  But I can see why capitalists would want it to go private - evil reasons for sure.
