Sadly, I do not have a mailroom guy.

Having a cat walk with me for three miles is as close as I'm going to get to training a cat.

In important news, I just hired my composer. Same one as on The Last Captain.

April 1

I got an email saying that is the final date to enter films into the San Francisco Documentary film festival. Seems like a sign.

Home stretch. I hope.

I just the movie again. Version 6. You people saw version 4. I kind of like it. Made plenty of notes, though. Cutting. Cutting. Cutting.

I did send the link to this version to a bunch of other people so they could watch it, some of them with a vested in the production. Nothing but crickets in response. Although Scapino did watch the first twenty minutes and found them enjoyable.

I made the Queen watch the film by herself last night so she could give me notes. I don't know if the marriage will survive it. I'm about to watch it again myself. This should be it before I send it to the composer.

I did get some response from Carl Borack. He seemed pleased with the effort.

Did you ever watch the Forbidden Zone?  ed & DM luved that film, back when they smoked a lot of crappy pot (drought of 86 - such a woeful time).

Stro hated Forbidden Zone.  He luved to mock it tho.

The end was in sight.

But then Carl Borack told me he had more notes but it was going to take a couple days to get to them. He wants to help me go from a niche film to one with broader appeal to get me into Sundance. Um, sure.

HK wants to hire the professional Voice Over guy we used on The Last Captain to do the narration. He's even agreed to pay for it.

Someone is always throwing in the anchor just before the finish line.

All that being said, I should have another version up by tomorrow.

Wow, exciting.  You are trying your best to go all Elon Musk on this.

(Come to think of it, Musk should direct a Bond movie.  Maybe titled, Tomorrow Will Be Too Late.)

I don't suppose there's a gentle way to put a powder keg under this Carl Borack.  You know, without losing his valuable input (because Sundance would be nice).
I'm nobody's pony.

Sundance will probably be cancelled due to covid-19

What's Borack's game?  Is he thinking like a Danny Elfman soundtrack like Forbidden Zone?  Cuz that would rock.

All kidding aside, I've always thought you had a solid narration voice, much stronger than mine (mine is spoiled by singing too many Stevie Nicks/Tom Waits/Bob Dylan songs...and drinking too much whiskey...the epitome of whiskey-soaked tones).  I'd have to listen to the TLC narrator again, but he didn't strike me as particularly stronger than you. Fun fact - I was the original narrator for Shaolin Ulysses, that PBS doc that consulted on back in 2003.  They flew me down and I recorded in a studio in Hollywood and flew me back.  That was the only time I've ever done flights like that - there and back again in one day.  But then they weren't happy with my work, so they hired Beau Bridges, who did a much better job.  Another fun fact - John Zorn did the music for that.

Yeah, I get spiders in the brain when I think about CB. I get the what can I do with this for my own benefit rather than helping the picture. One of his big pulls is that he went to High School with Richard Dreyfuss. We shall see. HK has similar notes about us getting into Sundance.

I think the film is fine. It tells a nice story with some really funny anecdotes in it. But I don't think it grabs people enough to get into the big festivals, never mind the small festivals.

I was kind of pleased with own narration. I thought I did a yeoman's job of it. When I did the narration for the movie of The Queen's trash collection, everybody at city hall thought I was silky smooth.

You have a good narrator's tone for sure.  I'm not sure Hk's guy would really improve on that.  Unless you can get some name celeb, like Dreyfuss, I'm not confident that would improve much.  I saw Dreyfuss in that Gina Carano flick last year - he seems to have gotten more crotchety.  http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=5198

That being said, anything you can do to make this more of a sell to festivals should be pursued.  With all this work you've put into it, you want an audience beyond us and fencers.  I think you have a solid story, but it's hard to be unbiased.
