Yeah, none of you guys watched Rebels so the dark saber means nothing to you.
In the end, S1 of Mando followed Rebels quite a bit. But I told ya - Rebels was cool.

Quote:Star Wars Exclusive: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Casts Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
Posted on Friday, March 20th, 2020 by Peter Sciretta
![[Image: rosario-dawson-asohka-tano-700x300.jpg]](https://d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net/wp/wp-content/images/rosario-dawson-asohka-tano-700x300.jpg)
We have exclusively learned that Rosario Dawson will appear in The Mandalorian season 2 and are excited to report that she will be playing a fan-favorite character previously only seen in the Star Wars animated productions. Dawson will be playing a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi padawan apprentice who appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. This would be the character’s first appearance in live-action.
![[Image: rosario-dawson-briarpatch-700x394.jpg]](https://d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net/wp/wp-content/images/rosario-dawson-briarpatch-700x394.jpg)
Ahsoka Mandalorian Season 2 Casting
Dave Filoni, the co-creator of Ahsoka in animated form, is a writer, producer, and director on The Mandalorian. He made his live-action directorial debut helming multiple episodes of the first season, and we saw a couple of weeks back that Dave Filoni had returned as a director for the second season. We have confirmed this Dawson casting with two independent sources. We reached out to Lucasfilm to request a statement from the company or Dave Filoni, but received no response. We have been chasing this scoop for a month now and have reached out to Rosario’s reps, who also didn’t respond.
This is a fan-casting dream come true. In 2017, a fan tweeted at Rosario Dawson, asking her to appear in a Star Wars movie as Ahsoka, and the actress responded, “Ummmm… yes, please?! #AhsokaLives” This tweet spurred groups of fans to campaign for her to play the role. Dawson was later asked about the fan campaign while appearing on Good Morning America, and she commented that “It would be amazing!”
As a fan of the character and Dawson, I’m excited to see Ahsoka make her live-action debut in The Mandalorian.

Who is Ahsoka Tano?
Ahsoka Tano is the protagonist of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and TV series. The character was co-created by Dave Filoni (a producer, writer, and director on The Mandalorian) and Geroge Lucas, as a balance to her Jedi master Anakin Skywalker. She was not initially accepted by Star Wars fandom, but as the Clone Wars series progressed, the complexity of her character increased, and now she is considered one of the big fan favorites. Ahsoka wields two lightsabers, one with a shorter shoto-style blade, and her iconic fighting stance involves her holding the hilts with a reverse grip. In the series, Ahsoka was voiced by Ashley Eckstein, who herself has become a big Star Wars fan favorite, creating the popular geek-centric clothing company Her Universe.
Ahsoka has since appeared in comics, her own novel, video games, and even a voice Rey hears at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Her reappearance in the DisneyXD series Star Wars Rebels showed that she was an instrumental part of the birth of the Rebellion. In the series, she had an epic confrontation with her old master Anakin Skywalker (now Darth Vader) inside a Sith temple on Malachor, where she was left for dead. I will save you the full story of how Jedi padawan Ezra Bridger saved her inside a realm between worlds and time, and just tell you she survived that big cliffhanger.
What Might Ahsoka’s Role Be In The Mandalorian?
Ahsoka made an appearance in the epilogue of the Star Wars Rebels series finale entitled “Family Reunion – and Farewell” (embedded above) that teased a future adventure. She returned to Lothal after the Empire’s destruction to join Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren in her quest to find their friend Ezra Bridger, who disappeared while battling Grand Admiral Thrawn years earlier. “Ezra’s out there somewhere,” Sabine thinks to herself. “And it’s time to bring him home.” The scene seemed like an obvious set-up for a future animated television series sequel/spin-off or movie.
We don’t know for sure how Ahsoka figures into the plot of The Mandalorian, but let’s speculate. Spoilers for season one of The Mandalorian follow.
The Darksaber, the ancient and unique black-bladed lightsaber wielded by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in the season one finale of The Mandalorian, was once the property of Sabine Wren – the colorful Mandalorian warrior who Ahsoka joins in her quest for Ezra. So it might make sense that Sabine plays a role in this upcoming season as well, although I have no confirmation on her appearance. Ahsoka also had a relationship with Jedi Master Yoda, one of the only other known people of The Child’s (AKA Baby Yoda) mysterious species. So maybe Ahsoka could help provide some information in that respect?
Going deeper down the well of speculation: last month during the Walt Disney Company’s Fiscal First Quarter 2020 Financial Results Conference Call, then-CEO Bob Iger mentioned that “The Mandalorian season 2 coming in October, and then more coming from The Mandalorian thereafter, including the possibility of – infusing it with more characters and the possibility of taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series.” If that Rebels epilogue is set somewhere within the same timeline as The Mandalorian as it appears, perhaps Ahsoka’s appearance in season 2 is a set-up for a live-action Disney+ spin-off series or movie.

More good news. I really needed some good news...
Quote:Boba Fett Returns For Mandalorian Season 2 With Original Jango Actor
The Mandalorian season 2 reportedly casts Temuera Morrison to play Boba Fett. Morrison portrayed bounty hunter Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.
The Mandalorian season 2 casts Temuera Morrison to play Boba Fett. The infamous bounty hunter has been one of the most popular Star Wars characters ever since 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, becoming an instant fan-favorite thanks to his cool appearance and mystique. While Boba didn't do much onscreen, most viewers have been interested in seeing more of him in various Star Wars projects. In fact, Jon Favreau said one of the reasons why he created The Mandalorian was to tap into the void left by Boba Fett hype.
Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, there's been an endless stream of rumors about a Boba Fett movie (one was set to be helmed by Josh Trank at one point). More recently, there was talk of James Mangold directing a Boba Fett spinoff, but those discussions died down in the aftermath of Solo: A Star Wars Story bombing at the box office. But now, Boba is finally ready to make his return, and it'll be in Disney+'s flagship program
THR reports Morrison has joined The Mandalorian season 2 to play Boba Fett. Fans will remember Morrison played bounty hunter Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones. That film revealed Boba is actually an unaltered clone of Jango, which is why Morrison is returning to the Star Wars franchise to play Boba as an adult. It also keeps continuity with the canonical special edition of The Empire Strikes Back, in which Morrison re-recorded Boba's dialogue.
![[Image: The-Mandalorian-Boba-Fett-1.jpg?q=50&fit...70&dpr=1.5]](https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/The-Mandalorian-Boba-Fett-1.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=740&h=370&dpr=1.5)
This news would seemingly confirm Boba managed to escape the Sarlacc pit after Return of the Jedi, which is something the Disney canon has yet to outright address. There have been vague teases in materials like one of the Aftermath novels and even a Mandalorian season 1 episode (fans speculated Boba was the mystery man at the end of "The Gunslinger"), but nothing's definitively revealed the character's fate yet. Of course, it's possible Boba will just show up in flashbacks, but the belief that Morrison has "a small role" on The Mandalorian makes it sound like this is more than just a glorified cameo. In all likelihood, Boba will be crossing paths with Din Djarin in an episode or two, but specific details are unknown. Hopefully, The Mandalorian season 2 provides some resolution to the aforementioned "The Gunslinger" thread.
Morrison's casting is the second major exciting development for The Mandalorian season 2; the other being Rosario Dawson's reported casting as live-action Ahsoka. With the Star Wars movies on hiatus for a few years following The Rise of Skywalker, the Disney+ shows need to be the franchise's main attraction, and Lucasfilm is making sure they generate a lot of interest. After The Mandalorian seized the zeitgeist with Baby Yoda in season 1, season 2 is swinging for the fences by integrating classic Star Wars characters fans have wanted to see in this medium for a long time. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together, but fans certainly have a lot to look forward to now.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Release Date Will NOT Be Delayed
Disney CEO Bob Chapek says The Mandalorian season 2's release date will not be delayed as post-production continues remotely.
The Mandalorian season 2 release date will not be delayed, according to Disney CEO Bob Chapek. New episodes of the hit Disney+ original are scheduled to premiere this October, hoping to build on season 1's success. However, that window was first announced before the coronavirus outbreak took a turn for the worse and all of Hollywood went on hold indefinitely. As a result of the ongoing health crisis, studios have significantly altered release slates and postponed productions as they wait for it to be safe to resume business operations.
Fortunately, The Mandalorian season 2 was able to finish filming just before the shutdowns were initiated, wrapping in early March. Since then, the crew has been able to handle post-production work remotely, doing what they can to get the latest episodes ready. Even with that bit of good news, fans remained curious to see if The Mandalorian season 2's release date would be changed due to the pandemic. For now, at least, that does not appear to be in the cards.
In an interview with CNBC, Chapek addressed The Mandalorian season 2's progress. When discussing the numerous projects Disney has in the pipeline, he said "there will be no delay on Mandalorian" since all of the episodes were shot prior to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Disney+ was supposed to expand their programming lineup this year with the release of new Marvel TV shows like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision. However, those premieres are now in doubt because of the pandemic. With that in mind, the Mouse House is certainly happy The Mandalorian season 2 is still moving along. It will give the studio something new to debut on the streaming service this fall, capitalizing on viewers' demand for fresh content. As much fun as it is for one to make their way through Disney+'s substantial back catalog of titles, nothing beats the excitement of watching something new. Even if movie theaters are in full swing by October, there will still be much anticipation for The Mandalorian season 2 - especially with the recent news Boba Fett will be featured.
Of course, it goes without saying these plans are subject to change. It's possible The Mandalorian season 2 could get pushed back, particularly if the visual effects aren't completed in time for October. The crew is able to work remotely, but that process is "more all-consuming than usual," according to director Rick Famuyiwa. It'll be interesting to see if the episodes are locked over the next few months. If not, it might be in the best interest to delay the season 2 release a bit to give the team more time. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that, and The Mandalorian season 2 is able to stream on Disney+ in October as scheduled.
OCTOBER!

Quote:Exclusive: ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Recruits Katee Sackhoff to Play Bo-Katan in Live-Action
Posted on Tuesday, May 12th, 2020 by Peter Sciretta
![[Image: katee-sackhoff-star-wars-rebels.jpg]](https://d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net/wp/wp-content/images/katee-sackhoff-star-wars-rebels.jpg)
Battlestar Galactica star and Star Wars veteran Katee Sackhoff is joining The Mandalorian season 2. We have exclusively learned that Sackhoff will be playing a live-action version of Bo-Katan Kryze, a Mandalorian warrior she previously voiced in Dave Filoni’s animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and later Star Wars Rebels.
Although both Lucasfilm and Sackhoff’s reps declined to comment, we have confirmed this story with multiple sources. She filmed her role back in February before Hollywood production shut down due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
Sackhoff has made a career of playing complex sci-fi tough women, recently appearing in Netflix’s sci-fi drama series Another Life. The Mandalorian season 2 completed principal photography in March and the post-production is being done remotely, so the new episodes will still hit Disney+ in October 2020.
Bo-Katan first appeared in season 4 of the Star Wars animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The character was a Mandalorian warrior – a lieutenant in the radical splinter group Death Watch, second-in-command to the group’s leader, Pre Vizsla. When Maul took possession of the Darksaber, executed Vizla, and took the throne of Mandalore, Bo-Katan refused to accept the outsider as her new leader. She was instrumental in recruiting the Jedi and the Republic to lay siege to Mandalore and oust Maul. Later in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine Wren chose to pass the infamous weapon to Bo-Katan, believing that she could unite the Mandalorian clans.
If you don’t know the animated series, it all boils down to this: Bo-Katan was an instrumental Mandalorian leader who once wielded the Darksaber, a weapon that the villainous Moff Gideon now controls, as seen in the first season finale of The Mandalorian.
Why Bo-Katan May Be Important To The Mandalorian
How did Bo-Katan lose the Darksaber? How did Moff Gideon get possession of it? Those stories have yet to be told. We don’t know much about the “purge of Mandalore” and the “night of a thousand tears”, but you can easily see why fans have been speculating that Kryze could appear in The Mandalorian. There is a lot of Mandalorian history missing from the current Star Wars canon, and maybe Bo-Katan’s live-action appearance would serve to fill in those gaps.
DiscussingFilm even asked Sackhoff about the possibility earlier this year, to which she responded: “I mean, who wouldn’t! … There are people that are going to jump to conclusions that Bo is going to be in The Mandalorian because on paper, it does make sense. But you know, we’ll just have to wait and see and cross all my fingers and toes. You never know.”
We only know that Bo-Katan appears in this upcoming season, we don’t know how she appears. It’s possible that Bo-Katan’s involvement could be contained to flashbacks. Since Gideon has the Darksaber, that means he would have taken it from her in a battle at some point. Bo-Katan may have died in that battle, and we could see that play out on screen in a flashback in The Mandalorian season 2.
The Filoni Legacy
Dave Filoni loves tying up loose ends from his previous shows, bringing back characters to finish their journeys in his new adventures. We saw this with Ahsoka and Rex in Star Wars Rebels, and we have already confirmed that The Mandalorian season 2 will have the first live-action appearance from Ahsoka (the last Mandalorian scoop we broke), possibly to help launch a spin-off series paying off the tease at the end of Star Wars Rebels.
Last week, it was reported that Temuera Morrison would be playing Boba Fett in the upcoming season, but that also opens the door to him playing the live-action Captain Rex, as they are both clones of Jango Fett. While I haven’t heard anything concrete, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a live-action version of Sabine Wren appear in the series considering her Mandalorian background, her relationship to the Darksaber, and the fact that she teams up with Ahsoka in the quest to find Ezra Bridger, which is speculated to be the driving force of an Ahsoka live-action series.
The creatives at the center of this all have longstanding ties. Series showrunner Jon Favreau was a fan of Battlestar Galactica, notably taking inspiration from the space combat in the Syfy television series when making Iron Man. Favreau also voiced Pre Vizsla in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the character who led Death Watch and commanded Bo-Katan. That series was created by Dave Filoni, who also serves as a writer, director, and executive producer on The Mandalorian.
