It's been like two years since I've been to an MMA fight. I only did this one because I could walk to the venue. Which is exactly what I did. I cold-called (emailed actually) the promoter and secured 2 press passes, me+1. I invited one of my Dragon Crew and word spread so two more joined us (paid for tix). I got myself situated with a chair right at cageside next to the head judges' table - best view in the house - and had a great time. Here's the official pix: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 362&type=3
The best fight was in the audience. Two gals started beating down this dude and then two other gals, friends of that dude, started mixing it up. It stopped the show for about 15 minutes and there was blood splashed across 4 chairs.
There weren't many KOs and not much blood. CAMO fights are amateur so it's 3 rds 2 mins for undercard and 3X3 for belt matches. That tends to cut down on the ground work as there isn't as much time to get a submission and the fighters can put more into it as they don't have to pace for a 5 min round. But still, it's like college football, fun to watch for it's lack of professionalism (and I mean that in a good way).
After the fights, we did a downtown bar crawl. I had forgotten what a crazy college drunken scene that is. Lines at all the better bars and packed, so we wound up working our way beachward to the scummier bars, just to get a table. At one point, two drunk chicks got in a rock/paper/scissor and thumb war right next to our table, which was the total opposite of the MMA fights. Man. How am I going to raise a teenage girl in walking distance of that?
