I saw this tour launch in September (http://brotherhoodofdoom.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=887). This was their homecoming and Jackie Green's B-day. They learned a lot on the road. The show was smokin', absolutely smokin'. It's one of the finest incarnations of Phil and Friends to date and I hope they keep it going for as long as possible. Phil is the old jedi master and Jackie is the firey new padawan and they are amazing to watch on stage together.
They opened with a screaming Bertha, a song that Los Lobos stole off the Dead while Jerry was still alive. Phil and Jackie finally took it back in a simply searing rendition. Cumberland and Half Step followed soon after, now ace cards in this band's sound. A delightful Sugaree wrapped the 1st set. Set 2 was acoustic - after decades of being a deadhead, one on the payroll, no less, DM has only heard Phil on standing bass twice before - Fennario, Elem, FotD and a Ripple to melt your heart. 3rd set was busier for RM, so DM only caught pieces of Althea, Shakedown, Dark Star, China Cat, Unbroken Help-slip-Frank. There was a happy b-day to Jackie that DM missed completely with a girl popping out of a cake and cake served to 500 lucky audience members who were in the right place at the right time. The show closed with a two song encore, Box and Brokedown, ending after 1AM.
It was a great show - a pure joy for DM to be back in deadheadland for a few hours - sometimes we still get flashbacks and we savor every one.
