Dreamgirls

Might as well start the thread now. December will be upon us very quickly and I want to be ready.
It's too bad somebody already has the Dreamgirls.com website. I'm betting they are going to be getting a lot of embarassed traffic. Or maybe not.

Yeah, now that link is more like it.
Naked women, that's how I like them.
Not encumbered by helmets and bulky suits.
No hydraulic and pneumatic lines snaking tight around them, the sound of their heavy breathing in tight quarters, steaming things up, the brush of sweaty flesh against kevlar, metal and rubber...

One of the major styles of kung fu is called Hung Ga and there's this hungkuen.net that has a large discussion forum whcih shanghaied a lot of people off the kungfumagazine.com forum. A few people asked me about it and I always refer them to hungmen.com.

OK, I didn't really have much to say here. I just wanted to see DM's across the whole forum.

I saw the trailer for this when we went to Marie Antoinette and it was both annoying and long. Eddie Murphy didn't look very good either. Not just the bad wig; I thought his face looked kind of haggard. And enough of Beyonce already!

On the other hand, it doesn't look like it will be as bad as the upcoming Russell Crowe movie. But that's like saying one piece of crap doesn't smell as bad as another one.

The Chronicle had a big ad for the Metreon sneak preview - Greg, I assume you'll come up for that.

I'm invited to all the out of town premiers. It's in my contract.

Since it is still before the actual release, I'm betting the movie is going to be great. Yeah, the trailer is too long, but if you see it, you don't have to see much of the film. I did see one completed segment for Step into the Bad side and it looked good.

You can never have too much Beyonce. Just ask DM

As for Eddie, they say he steals the show. Ah, the tension on the set between Eddie and Jamie. Precious.

Thanks Greg for the DG shirt!

It is probably the only movie schwag item I cannot possibly wear in public. It's like the hoodie my friend gave me for 'Little Miss Sunshine'.

All it says is 'Little Miss Sunshine' on the front. Luckily it was a girl's hoodie so Dee Dee can wear it.

All I can say is I hope your next project isn't for 'Big Fat Bimbo' or 'Gay Like Me'.

What do you mean you can't wear it in public. All the kids on the movie were begging for them because of their coolness factor. I lie not. Fortunately, I got to tell them no they couldn't have one. You on the other hand are a less than proud owner. It does say construction doesn't it?

But not in a good way. My sister and mother got to see an advance screening of Dreamgirls in San Jose. My mother thought the acting, singing, costumes and makeup were all terrific. She wondered what I did on the film.

I really enjoyed it. Despite the hype, I honestly wasn't expecting to like it because, it's a musical and there are very few musicals I really like. (I liked Moulin Rouge on film, and Sweeney Todd on the stage, and I like the songs from some other standard Rogers and Hammersteins, West Side Story, Fiddler, etc., but in terms of being entertained by the whole production, I really don't like most musicals.) But I really liked it. I'm tempted to visit iTunes and download some of the songs.

I'm not an American Idol person, so I barely knew who Jennifer Hudson was. I assumed she probably had a decent voice. I was blown away. Just -- wow. I wanted to blow away the costume designer for what she made poor Jennifer wear during Effie's big song, in the breaking up with the group scene.

Beyonce was her character and not just Beyonce. The vast majority of the time I didn't even recognize her as Beyonce.

Eddie Murphy seriously surprised me. His singing was very good, his acting really had some major moments.

All the white people in this movie were very creepy!

There were some eyeroller moments -- the brother's big solo with the "it's not all about you, we're family so just forget about what's good for you and be part of the group effort" song was pretty bad, and the waving by the audience in the farewell performance scene was the corniest thing I've seen since Captain Von Trapp's kids said goodnight at the party and the guests waved back at them.

It could have used a bit more editing -- runs a little long. But I'm very excited to be able to recommend a film that Greg worked on to my friends and family and let them know to stay for the credits so they can see CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN - GREG LYNCH, despite the fact that they run longer than the movie. Tip: don't get the jumbo-sized drink.

Jennifer Hudson didn't mention Greg in her acceptance speech. Why, of all the ungrateful...

Grrr.

She did spring for cupcakes for the crew from some tres chic place one night. So, it's all good. And tres chic cupcakes, taste just like regular cupcakes. Maybe I haven't developed the palate to discern the difference?

The Detroit Theater was ok. It was improperly lit and poorly filmed, but it lent some nice authenticity to the role. The Miami Crystal Room turned in a fine show, with all the seedy glitz we'd expect from Miami. The Chandler Pavillion was completely unrecognizable in the role, a testament to fine acting. Nice wainscotting there, and DM is always a sucker for nice wainscotting. The Apollo was surprisingly good. We'll expect more from it in the future. The Apollo is one to watch. Curtis Cadillac was mediocre and Rainbow Records just kept reminding me of the Rainbow records on El Camino Real - just couldn't suspend my disbelief long enough to make that work. American Bandstand seemed totally fake. Max Washington's Club could have been done by anyone. Again, the lighting and camera work severly detracted from proper showcasing of the set. Ceasar's was good - that always sets a high standard. On the whole, it was a bit longwinded. DM loves musicals, but all pales to Bollywood, especially a Broadway show attempting to make the big jump to the silver screen. The film would have been much better if the sets weren't blocked by Donkey, that American Idol chick and that Destiny's Child chick.
