Greg Wrote:But did Jackie get 40 billion for Africa? I don't think so. Rock on, Bono. End and the means and all that. I'm good at math! Greg's ass must be 6 x infinity to pull this number from! The US forgave Africa 40b in debt, no thanks to Bono. All Bono did was latch on to any politician that would give him a photo op and wave a peace sign. The brains behind Live Aid and G8? Bob Geldof. The man who chastised the UN for not honoring pledges and ensuring donations made it to those in need? Bob Geldof. Bono is a tool and U2 sucks. Jackie has donated HALF his fortune to charity when he dies, in addition to the millions he's given during his career. Do you feel the hate I have for Bono? It almost makes me want to give a quarter to a homeless guy. Almost.

Brains behind Live Aid and We are the World? Bono and Bob Geldoff. Check the credits. It was a joint effort. Bono shamed the leaders into the debt relief. I can't think of any time Geldoff met with US leaders. And if all you say is true, why is Bono up for the Nobel Prize and not Gelfdoff. Not that I don't like Sir Bob, I think you denigrate Mr. Hewson's achievements because you don't like his music.

Once I learned that over a hundred people are nominated every year I stopped considering that an achievement.
Adolph Hitler was nominated in 1939 for not invading Austria. Brains behind "We are the World"? Harry Belefonte. Bono isn't even on that record. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_are_the_world I think you mean "Do They Know It's Christmas" performed by Band Aid, the brainchild of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_Aid_%28band%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_They_Kn ... _Christmas I LOVED U2. Up until 'The Joshua Tree'. Then Bono turned into a cooler-than-thou, egotistical, shade-wearing Catholic schoolboy. I miss the semi-humble Bono that sang 'New Years Day' and 'I Will Follow'. I think the evidence I have presented in this thread and others proves that I can veer off-topic with the best of them AND that Bono is a tool. Long live Jackie Chan!

Shouldn't we be discussing this here? http://brotherhoodofdoom.com/phpBB2/vie ... 3&start=15
Jackie would kick Bono's ass in the cage every day of the week and a twice on Sunday. But I'm serious about Joshua Tree. That tour changed everything for me.

Yeah, then Bono became succesful and that's not to be done. He's still the man who wrote poignantly about his father in such songs as "One" and "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" Nothing more egotistical than sharing your pain about relationships.

monbiot Wrote:I have heard similar sentiments from every African campaigner I have spoken to. Bob Geldof is beginning to look like Mother Teresa or Joy Adamson. To the corporate press, and therefore to most of the public, he is a saint. Among those who know something about the issues, he is detested. Those other tabloid saints appeared to recognise that if they rattled the cages of the powerful, the newspapers upon which their public regard depended would turn against them. When there was a conflict between their public image and their cause, the image won. It seems to me that Geldof has played the same game.

Wow that's what his movies have been missing, a baby. Was Greg on those credits.
I am hoping for something good. Can you make any recommendations for a good martial film? I need, I need. LBBP

Funny you should ask because I just went by my local Chinese DVD place looking for a copy. I found a copy of The Banquet (the latest from Yuen Woo Ping and Zhang Ziyi) for $12 but didn't buy it. No subtitles. I might go back and get that one anyway.
RBH got released in China last month. It did ok at Cannes and was picked up by some Italian distributor, which probably means it won't come to U.S. theaters, only on DVD. All the reviews I've heard say it's par for the course for Jackie - fluffy, entertaining, good stunts, but not a heavy hitter. It's Jackie, what do you want? I'm still keeping my eye out for a DVD and will get it when I find it. I'll let you know. The two MA flicks on the horizon now are Curse of the Golden Flower (Chow Yun Fat, Gong Li) and D.O.A. (Corey Yuen choreographing five hotties).

Rob-B-Hood is bad. Real bad. It's the worst HK Chan project in a long, long time. I picked up a Korean DVD with English subs at Rasputin of all places and watched it last night. I was nodding off, struggling to make it to the finale fight (and it wasn't very late at all). The film clocks in at about 2 hours, which is an hour and fifty minutes too long.
There's two nice stunts - almost subtle in their death-defying execution - nice to see Jackie still has skillz at 52. There's also two nice fights - the finale fight in a freezer and a well-choreographed fight in a claustrophobic HK apartment - plus a few short fights that are decent and one that's just silly (a trampoline fight in a mothers-to-be school - why a trampoline? I don't know). Jackie still has the most imaginative fights - agile stuff, with good tension and fight plot progression. Then there's the hour and fifty minutes of this absurdly bad movie that goes everywhere but forward. Lots of baby in jeopardy stuff. Lots of senseless twists. People call each other 'asshole' a lot in this film and for good reason. All the characters are reprehensible (except the baby). Chan tries to show some acting chops, but you're totally unsympathetic to his plight. There's some goofy comedy that almost works, but a lot of dirty diaper fu with shit flying all over the place. Yuck. Such a disappointment. You can see how it might have worked if Yuan and Sammo were on board as the criminal threesome, but without them, it collapses entirely. Yuan's in there, but not significant. The Korean translation has some really odd subtitles - for some reason, ala Backstroke of the West, Jackie's character's name is 'Y-slipper'. This is one to just skip to the fight scenes. I'll try to remember where they were if the opportunity presents itself.

This damn cheap Korean DVD doesn't have chapters. That means I'd have to fast forward to try to get to those stunts and fight scenes. I suppose I shouldn't complain that much since it was only a $9 DVD. Eh, I shoulda got the VCD.... :x
One more comment. There's this scene where the baby (in a basket) gets stuck to an armored car and a car chase ensues. The tow drivers freak out thinking Jackie is trying to rob the car. Through many escapades, Jackie recovers the baby. Then one driver makes a weird effeminate comment and says he's from brokeback mountain. Maybe that's funny in Chinese. Such is the comedic relief in the film.
