This is being hailed as the Thai Black Mirror and that’s not too far off the mark. It’s dystopian tech tales, 4 separate stories, each a little over an hour.
I went for e3 - Buddha Data. An AI device called ULTRA teaches Buddhism and awards merit points that can be exchanged for government bill discounts. An ex-programmer monk with an R2-like collection droid challenges it which his own AI Buddha statues that is based on the abbot of his temple. The story had its moments and point about the commercialization and corruption of religion - like Twilight Zone, there’s a moral to the story. The world building was minor - kinda like Bangkok with some CGI drones and space cars tossed in, but only as accentuations, not full on Bladerunner style. It reminded me of how Amos Eisley changed when Lucas superimposed CGI beasts over costumed elephants. It still looked like modern Thailand. There were moments of thought provocation, particularly with the Buddhist concepts of karma and merit. Not nearly as mind blowing as Black Mirror got, but still engaging.
I’ll watch some more. Loos like there’s a tentacle ep and a prostitute bot ep coming up.
Shadow boxing the apocalypse
