Oh, I wanted this to be good. It was the first film that jumped out at me on the airplane queue. I think Danny Boyle is a really good director. Richard Curtis wrote some stellar Romantic Comedies like Notting Hill and Love, Actually. I had such high hopes.
Yeah.
After you get through the bit where there is only one man left in the world who knows who the Beatles are, there is not a lot of story. It's clever, but it doesn't carry the film. And are the Beatles songs still great without the Beatles is question I kept having. It was an odd film to get my head around.
Granted, I was only listening through one ear plug, because the other only gave out static. And I had to press the jack against the plug constantly to get any sound. This might have some impact on my enjoyment of the film.
I'll probably revisit this one as well on a much better platform.

It was cute but average. The lead, Himesh Patel, couldn't quite carry it. I liked that he was Indian and that race never plays into it, but he just didn't have the acting chops. Sheeran's cameo was amusing even though he just plays himself and just barely. Downtown factor - Lady Rose. I've always known she was bound for more stardom but she didn't work for me here because she was way too hot and obvious so why did the Patel fail to hit on her? Kate McKinnon was on point. The premise wasn't fleshed out enough. It had it's moments but the reason behind it all never quite made sense. It needed more explanation.
The DVD has an alternate ending which we felt was better.
No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended, not even for Greg's revisitation.

It came up on one of the premium channels and I gave it a pass. The same went for Blinded by the Light. I'll watch Rocketman, thank you.

And then I didn't give it a pass. I caught most of it again on the party channels. It is fast more charming than I remember. Kate McKinnon does a really good job.
