Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
#1
This is the first collection of Holmes stories that originally appeared in The Strand. Perhaps because of that, they are all about the same length, 25 pages or so in this edition. The plots were fairly clever, although some were a bit obvious. I really enjoyed the little details about 19th century life; it shows just how different and strange that world was. His style is good, a bit like H.G. Wells I would say.

These stories all take place shortly before or after Watson's marriage, although his wife barely appears; I thinks she has only one spoken line. There are two novels set before this; Holmes and Watson were introduced in A Study in Scarlet.

I enjoyed these stories as something a bit lighter and shorter between novels.

I loved Doyle in college. Read the whole saga in order, just like I did with Fleming, but never revisited either.
