I just realized you guys don't think I read.
I read. I just have a weird genre passion. Rock star biographies.
From Bob Geldof to Neil Young, I love reading the rags-to-riches stories of musicians. Most of these folks came from nothing andĀ reading their stories of how they handled famine-to-fame is fascinating to me.
John Fogerty is a narcisstic prick.
It will be hard for me to listen to Creedence after reading his book. I have never read a biography where the author glorified himself as a 'true artist' while disssing his friends and bandmates as incompetent. Even if you felt it was true you shouldn't publish it. It's opinion, not fact.
The book is non-stop "I wrote everything, I played everything, I was screwed over".
Yes, Saul Zantz was a prick. This is well known. So were a ton of music producers. The music industry modelĀ (1960 - 1980) was awful.
The early bits about growing up in Albany were interesting.
