So, dark. Grimdark plus.
In this land the whole world is foul. All the dirty towns surround a place called aptly enough, The Misery. It's basically the site of an atomic bomb of magic and the effects are still be felt to this day. On one side of the Misery are our heroes who work for the Nameless. The Nameless are a group of Wizards who set off the Magic Bomb to stop the Dead Kings. Our alcoholic hero works for one of the nameless in the ongoing battle to defeat the most recent depredations of the Dead Kings. He's got a tattoo on his arm of a rave that comes to life when messages are coming in.
What our hero has to do is figure out why the industrial magic Maginot line doesn't seem to be working especially important in light of the fact the Dead Kings army of odd creatures is on it's way.
This book made me feel grubby. The whole world is mired in filth. the food is dirty. They walk through dirt. An no one is clean morally, either.
I did enjoy it but it was a slog without any glimmer of light.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
