We walked downtown again. I intentionally wore jeans & a T-shirt but prolly won't again. Not as fun. We indulged in a fine supper at Chocolate and hung out at the bookshop beforehand. I bumped into Daniel Stewart in the hall - thought about asking for a selfie but regretfully didn't.
The Chairman Dances - John Adams. From hisĀ opera Nixon in China. Odd piece with precision percussion. A tad too 'chopsticky' for me, often so for western emulations of Chinese pentatonics. LuvedĀ that percussion tho.
West Side Story - Bernstein. A medley that was all over that was all over the places. Deft acrobatics from the orchestra especially again the percussion section. It went so many places. I was reminded of Stro. He sometimes evoked WSS when encouraging team spirit by quoting 'When you're a jet, you're a jet all the way.' Sorry I didn't mention that, Greg. I've been having plenty of 20/20 hindsight on that.
Symphony #7 - Beethoven. That 2nd movement is so achingly beautiful, I got misty hearing it live.
SC Symphony is really going for it for their 60th. The next one is huge - Wagner, Strauss, & Rimsky-Korsakov.
