Trainspotting 2
#1
Why isn't there a Trainspotting 1 thread here?  Don't answer that.  It's unacceptable.

Boyle reunites the original cast Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud and even Merida, and it's one of the best sequels of such I've seen in years.  Like the original, it's an ode to junkie lifestyle with the poignancy, the harshness, the black humor and the ultimate tragedy.  Both films really capture the world of addiction, in an exaggerated way of course because it's only a movie, but anyone whose been there will recognize the signposts.  There's an amusing dose (pun intended) of nostalgia and melancholy with the soundtrack, so fitting because the film is a regrouping of characters that split 20 years ago and are retracing their steps.  Plenty of rails and horses, each trip captured eloquently and with keen observations that both amuse and horrify. The 'Choose Life' rant is so spot on.

I had been putting this off because the original was a fav of mine and Steve Campos, my dear confidante who passed away in 2017.  I think we referenced this as much as Monty Python, Clockwork Orange & Lebowsky.  He was very much looking forward to the sequel, and was even toying with leaving his hermitage to go to the movies, something he never did, but he didn't live to its premiere.  I couldn't bring myself to watch it after that until last night.  Seemed like a decent way to celebrate NYE as it was free with one of our streaming services.  He would've loved T2.
