I'm surprised there's no thread for this, but I got no search results. I saw part one a few months ago but never got around to posting, but now that part two is out, here I am.
It's a Baz Luhrman produced for Netflix short series about the birth of hip hop in the Bronx in the late 1970s. The part one episodes set up all the characters, and the DJ, named Shaolin Fantastic (I really can't believe DM has not reviewed this) learns how to DJ from Grandmaster Flash, who is sort of like Caine's master from Kung Fu, with enigmatic instructions etc. By the end of the five or so episodes, there is a crew together and it all ends with a triumphant battle against a rival crew. Some good camera work IMO as well, but that's just my layman's take.
Part two carries on with the story, and the main character is pulled either toward rapping or going to college, and some people are selling drugs, and disco is dying, etc. I'm only a couple of episodes into this part but so far pretty good. Oddly they have taken to including some animated bits which I don't like that much but I guess it speeds up some transitions or something.
The music is mostly good too. I don't want to say it, but I even like Jaden Smith.
