He was my PhDÂ advisor at UCSC. He got me a fat scholarship, but he really only wanted a research assistant and he was working on targeting systems for bombers, which was not my thing. He fell asleep in my 1st year presentation. He told me at the beginning of my 2nd year that I merely needed to finish out the year for a MS, which turned out not to be so. We never connected at all.
I remember the Dead lyric 'There may come a day when I'll dance on your grave, unable to dance I'll still crawl across it' and thinking I would do that for Bruce. But now I don't care. It was my own fault for accepting that scholarship so blindly. I didn't know then. I'm not mourning him but I forgave him a long time ago. And what a way for him to check out.
