If the Queen has a problem with Joe Abercrombie characters, she needs to stay far away from Parker.
The story is of political exiles the metOc's and the colony town they terrorize. As in all Parker novels, there isn't anybody to root for. Even the hero is a nasty piece of work, seeking a terrible revenge against his family because it has to be done.
Also like most of Parker novels, nascent industry plays a big role The youngest metOc builds a factory because he knows how to read a book. He brings guns to everybody when before they were exclusive to just a few. Naturally, this has terrible consequences too.
It's all bad. Even the guy you can almost root for, the one with a bit of empathy and the fact he can see right from wrong, eventually kills a man.
It seems to be the books Ayn Rand would write if she wrote fantasy fiction.
