The opening band was 'Steel Panther'. None of us had heard of them so we were expecting some cheesy hair metal band.
What we got was some cheesy hair metal band that had me keeling over with laughter.
It took us about 10 minutes to realize these guys were the 'Spinal Tap' of the '80s. They had names like "Lexi Foxx" and "Michael Starr". They wore spandex, colorful scarves and long blond hair. The songs and audience banter were vulgar, profanity laced biographies about how they met each other and hooked up based on capacity for drugs and alcohol.
If you are easily offended, NEVER SEE THIS BAND. If you find gang rape jokes funny, you'll love these guys.
Dee Dee and I had a blast.
Judas Priest were almost disappointing to me with how great they were. Note-perfect, pedal-to-the-metal stage performance with almost every hit: "Love Bites", "You've Got Another Thing Comin' ", "Breakin' the Law", "Living After Midnight".
Rob Halford (recovering from back surgery) was a little stiff but a vocal superhero AND a fashion diva by changing jackets for almost every song. I always love the metal crowd for loving Rob even after coming out. "WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT! YOU RIDE A HARLEY!".
There is something about a metal show that cleanses the soul.
Next up my Red Fang/In Flames/Opeth show in December...
