Masters of Horror

Deer Woman, directed by Landis

I guess Masters of Horror was a series on Showtime or somewhere. Great horror directors were asked to direct one-hour movies for the series, supposedly with no censorship or other restrictions (though Miike fixed their wagon fast). Deer Woman is Landis's entry.

Men are found trampled to death with erect penises. I mean, the forensic expert can tell that the penises were erect at the time of trampling based on tiny writing on the penis that says, "Hey, don't trample me! I'm erect!" Well, anyway, the expert can tell. This can mean only one thing. Well, it can mean a whole lot of things with bumbling police investigators. But you can pretty much tell where this is headed.

The story is based on the Indian legend of the deer woman (woman from the waist up, deer below). She lures men off into the wilderness, gets them all excited, then tramples them.

I'm not going to recommend this movie. It's actually a great idea for an X-Files episode, but the investigator (played by Brian Benben) is so bitter towards his fellow officers, his job, and life in general that it makes it hard to watch. Actually, his fellow officers are equally bitter about everything and are fond of telling each other to shut up, to the point that I was cringing after a while.

There is one exception -- the deer woman herself, played by Brazilian supermodel Cinthia Moura. Though she doesn't have a speaking role, still, she steals the scenes she's in and just about makes all the nonsense worth watching.

What a rack.

OK, only fair to provide proof.
