O'Dessa
I almost bailed at the halfway point. This is one of those films that had a lot of potential but missed. The lead Sadie Sink played Annie and has pipes, but she’s given these middling country-ish tunes. She’s a ‘rambler’ a traveling troubadour and a ‘chosen one’ in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by a media mogul who hypnotizes the population with a tv eye powered by the toxin that has polluted the world & is also the drug of choice when smoked out of a dead fish. It had potential for some deliciously psychedelic scenes but the whole film looks like a throwback to 80s sci-fi - gaudy, run down, tossed together from second hand stores. The music moments fall flat, despite Sink’s fair performances. It’s predictable, plodding and ultimately not the potential parody it might have been. The ending was good, but not reward enough payout to justify the rest of it.
Not D00M recommended. Seen on Hulu/D+
