English Beat

(Again...)

This time at the Golden State Theater in Monterey. My daughter came down and we went to the counter to buy tickets. The machine declined my card (probably thought it was suspicious activity). I went to pull out another card and a second staff person came over and said that a couple just called and said they couldn't make it and that we could go in, no charge (seems like a fishy story, but whatever...) we went in, got drinks and tipped the bartenders well.

Show was super fun non-stop dance party. Once I finished my drink, I donned the face mask. I only saw one other person wearing a mask down on the dance floor. It's just Dave W and a bunch of hired guns although the rankin (other person) introduced the black backup singer at the end of the show as Chloe Wakeling, Dave's daughter.

Lots of fun, and a good night out.

Pixies come in March!

Sweet! They were one of my fav acts at the boardwalk bandshell back before Covid changed everything. Sounds like a fine father/daughter evening. I’m happy for you two.

I still have yet to check out that venue. Stephan Marley will be there in February. Tempting…

Put this in the back when Greg was cool file (Greg was never cool): I remember listening to them back in Ireland when they were first starting out and referred to simply as The Beat. Was quite confused when I heard them back in the States and they were now known as The English Beat. I guess someone in the US was already using that name.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

(Paul Collins) Beat. I don't remember the song, but they had a video in heavy rotation on MTV. The keyboardist was Phil Shaeffer-esque and Paul Collins was prematurely bald. I think KB and Pete Donahue referred to the band as "Varying Degrees of Baldness".

No...Paul Collins Beat is a US band. Phil is a true Brit. (Did you know Phil was an extra in Hard Day's Night when he was a kid?)
