The Musketeers 2014-2016
#1
This BBC production has been in my queue forever. Finally tuned in the first Ep. And whaaaattt? Is that... Emily Beecham? OMG! She plays Adele, the lover of Aramis and Dr Who (Capaldi) as the Cardinal. I’m like ‘all in! Team widow forever!’ I’m down for this whole series despite the cheesiness of this production. It’s mediocre tho - there are lots of muskets, which is refreshing. It’s overdone and none of the musketeers feel authentic. Then at the end of Ep 1, Emily dies. The cardinal has been her shot. Dammit.

Swordfight But way overdone swashbuckling choreo. Not particularly DOOM recommended.

2 eps in but may bail soon. No Widow. No deal.

I pronounce it to be Fun. The marriage of police procedural and 17th Century politics is enjoyable

Did you watch all of it? Does it get better?

The Widow tease was so disappointing. It was a good character for Emily and I was really looking forward to seeing her develop. Plus Emily in a bodice...

Yeah, but it will never be anything more than great costumes and buckles getting swashed. Beats watching Springer.

But no more Widow? She was killed off screen so there's a chance...

Honestly, I don’t remember, but wikipedia would tell you. It may be that she is the “Milady DeWinter” of the first season. Getting killed off-screen lends itself to that.

I do remember that Cardinal Richlieu had to scotch the second season to go be Dr Who.
