Renoir (2012)
#1
A french film. This is about Renoir in his final years, his son Jean, wounded in WWI and destined to be a filmmaker, and the painter's final model, Andree. Renoir is wheelchair bound from strokes and has to have his brushes strapped to his hands because of arthritis. He's living on a fantastic property, overlooking the ocean, with a magnificent studio and a bevy of women taking care of him.

It's artsy - lots of art theory - art wisdom from Renoir - and scenes shot to replicate the light and composition of his work. The film has a beautiful light. There some great discussions of the power of flesh which works for works of Renoir. Andree, the model, spends most of the time nekkid and there is lots of discussion of her tits. She has nice tits. Very nice. I like art.

We were reading wiki about Renoir and the film got a lot of the facts right. They used a convicted art forger to reproduce the paintings being painted. But it just kinda ends like French films do - although its not overly existential as French films can be.

No sword fights. Recommended for DOOMers who enjoy nice tits.

Watched it.  A nice quiet meditative film.  I kept expecting Depardieu to put in an appearance.  I mean, he's always in these French films about artists.

The old guy who played Renoir did a great job.  As for the son, Jean Renoir, he had this single-minded patriotic intensity about him (somehow reminding me of Ed Norton) at odds with any creative spark that would allow him to evolve into a great filmmaker.

Do you think that's all I watch movies for?

This was a movie about artistic genius in an idyllic setting.  Enough to simply watch, in awe, as the titular father of impressionism applied vibrant hues to canvas in a titillating display to put a peacock to shame (That naples yellow!  Has there ever been a better use of naples yellow?) -- all set in a beautiful paradise of diverse flora and fauna perhaps only lacking in Eurasion blue tits.

Enough to drive a teetotaler to drink.

Or put another way, BigBreastFont is not available on this board, and it's a lot of work installing it on my laptop, using it in a document, imaging it in Photoshop, uploading the jpeg to the cloud and linking it as an image here.

Your effort behind the BBF was worth it. You got the FTW.

It is a beautiful film. I loved the way the colors caught the same atmosphere of his paintings, not just the nudes but the still lifes he did of fruit and fish had lots of homage shots in the kitchen scenes.
