I thought I had seen this but no, maybe it was one, or one of the other Twin flicks. First off, Twins is a cantopop group, two divas, Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung. They made many albums and several films, including several films with Twin in the title like this. So it's got budget - colorful costumes, big sets, lots of extras, some stunning locations.
It's also the nascent years of CGI so there's cheesy effects. Actually, this is all cheese. It's the cheesiest. Corey Yuen is directing, the king of cartoon physic fights. No realism here. Hardly a sensible plot. Well, not sensible at all really.
It's the debut film of Jaycee Chan (that's JC as in Jackie's son). And there are some serious cameos - Jackie himself in a random fight scene, Donnie Yen, Fan Bingbing and my buddy Daniel Wu. It's a fantasy - the world is ruled by an evil queen and populated by Amazons. Men are slaves called 'dumbbells'. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is the name of a character. Lots of fantasy weapons, lots of flying about wire work.
Charlene and Gillian are super cute and they've both got good legs for flying kicks. The fights are crazy absurd but not unentertaining, and display some extraordinary if unconvincing wire work. Several times I was wondering if it was all working. It doesn't really but it's so preposterous, I wound up not caring. Very park your brain outside.
Swords - well yeah. Part of the plot is the quest for a silly fantasy sword called Excalibur. DOOM recommended but you should be very intoxicated. Hell, we would've had field day MST3King this back in the 90s. As it was 2004, it feels like a throwback - very Corey Yuen. Now that we've been tainted by the likes of Miike, this is a softball. But it's harmless enough, like candy on many levels.
A Netflixer.
