An early Hitchcock starring nobody we knew, and very propangadist patriotic in the end. It's his lecture to the American people about how we must defend America against the rising fascist threat. Remember when it was patriotic to hate Hitler?
Nevertheless, this delivers some fine Hitchcock moments particularly in the special effects realm. He uses models of skyscrapers and airplanes, peering into the windows to reveal the actors inside, a common shot nowadays with cgi but impressive given his old school resources. There's lots of vertiginous moments, in fact, falling from great heights and hanging from windows happens a lot in this. And there's a notable plane crash in the ocean where the actors contend with some rough seas that's really impressive. That couldn't be a soundstage. They must have actually put them in those huge waves.
No sword fights. Not particularly DOOM recommended or not recommended.
