I watched this fully intending to warn all Doomers (DM especially) away from this turkey, as I'd heard many bad things about it. In this way I could redeem myself for failing to wave DM off Beyond Skyline.
The problem is, I kind of liked it. It's a sleazy muddle of a movie, no doubt. But despite the dead wood and cul de sacs there's enough off-kilter scenes to yank my chain in a good way.
Zac Efron, Matthew MacConaughey, Scott Glenn, John Cusack, Nicole Kidman -- all cast against type. Though it's hard for Nicole to be cast against all her types. Still, she pulls it off. An especially gutsy role for her.
An oddball movie, not exactly weird, but certainly not a Hollywood cookie cutter product. Hated by the author of the book it is based on, hated by most critics and viewers. But it got a 15 minute standing ovation at Cannes. Yeah, it's that kind of oddball entity.
See it. You may regret it, but it will be a worthwhile regret.

I'm nobody's pony.
