Allan Joe, a friend of Bruce Lee's from the early years, and a Fremont resident for years, passed away yesterday. I've been by his home, which is very close to the office, and sat on his sofa where Bruce once sat. It took me years to get introduced to him and I regret not doing more with him. He was a true gentleman, touched by the grace of the dragon, so welcoming and open. Today's task is to write an official obituary.
Also, a dear friend from my old Dead Tour/BGP daze, Henry Sullivan passed away last week. He was a Lord of the lots, one of the protectors of shakedown street who I worked with for some 30+ years. The last time we saved a lost soul together was on the rocky south beach of Eel river two years ago. I was called out on a mission of mercy and had several of my top JNK in tow. But like he always did, Henry was there long before we were, solved the issue, and saw it through. He taught me so much about charity, creative problem solving, open-mindedness and humble heroism, but never in direct lessons, always by example. The music festival scene won't be the same without him.

Allen Joe. The guy with the heavy bag in his garage. I remember your write-up on him. Sorry to hear of his departure.

Emailed you the obit for editing/formatting a bit ago. We'll need that back by tomorrow morning.

I went to Allen Joe’s funeral today. It was private. One uninvited asshole ‘master’ had to be kicked out. I was invited yesterday, even though I’m not particularly close to the family. Linda Lee Caldwell spoke first. Shannon Lee sang. There were several old skool JKD people there and the honor guard since Joe served in WWII. Very surreal.

Your autobiography is going to be pretty interesting, if memory loss doesn’t steal all the good stuff.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Henry's memorial was last Sunday at the Great American Music Hall in SF, but I had too much to do to prepare for this week. So I missed it. I saw plenty of photos on facebook - many old friends, some I haven't seen in so long. Memorials are the only place we seem to gather now.

True, that. More funerals than marriages. Another sign of getting old.

DOOM is my autobiography. Well, there was my book, Shaolin Trips, but that was only partly autobiographical.
I'm back here to report that Allen Joe's widow, Annie, just passed. They were married for 70 years. She was such a sweet lady. I was searching for an obituary for KFM, and goog led me astray, but it took a lot of time for me to figure that out. I realized I've been spending way too much time looking at obituary sites. Where, oh where, is Cate Blanchette? She could read the obituaries to me. That would be very consoling.
